Tendonitis also known as tendinitis occurs when tendons or cords that attach bones to muscles get inflamed or irritated. Tendonitis can affect anyone but is more prevalent in those over 40. This is because tendons become harder and more inflexible with age and thus have a greater chance of being affected.
The most common areas that get affected by tendonitis are the elbows, shoulders, knees, hips, wrists, base of the thumb and achilles tendon.
Tendonitis is generally caused by excessive force or pressure on a tendon either due to exercise or repetitive action. It can also be caused by diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout and diabetes.
The best treatment for tendonitis is to allow the tendon to rest and recover. Stop the activity causing pressure. Supporting the area and physical therapy are also recommended. Anti-inflammatory drugs are sometimes prescribed along with corticosteroids to reduce the pain and inflammation. However these generally have side effects.
Herbal remedies such a Rumalaya Forte tablets and Rumalaya gel ointment provide pain relief and reduce inflammation without any side effects.
